Restoring a Hall, Dreaming of a Castle

While restoring our coastal cottage that was once grandly named Howell Hall, I am actually dreaming of an even older project. Let me tell you the secret…

Ever since I learned that castles could be purchased and not just passed down between royal families, it has been my quest to acquire one for myself and my kingdom at large. I have spend many years searching, and plotting, and dreaming of the day I would have my very own hundreds-of-years-old ruin to lovingly restore every miniscule crumbling detail of.

Imagine my shock at finding out the dilapidated beach house I was (reluctantly and with vocal displeasure) caretaking for my father is actually much older than expected, with basements that likely date to the 17th century and beautiful architectural details from every era since. As an author, I would have considered such a plot twist too implausible, but here we are, on a trial run of castle restoration on maritime-history steeped estate in America, while still waiting on that perfect castle across the Atlantic to appear.
